The title of the project, Mending, refers to a job historically considered feminine. Darning is a difficult and misunderstood art because the completed intervention, when done well, is no longer visible. The fabric miraculously reassembles, and the mending disappears, remaining visible only on the reverse side of the fabric, the one that does not show. So, it is easy to ignore it... With a work of weaving that I drew from my family heritage, I thought to stage both the cultural power of women and the historical forms of the progressive erasure of women as subjects. I drew almost cartoonish vignettes, grotesquely exaggerating some features or emphasizing the surreal aspect of others. It is a simulation and, as such, is both true and false simultaneously
